Qualifying connection

If you live outside the parish, you need a qualifying connection in order to be married in Wymering Church. There are a number of these and Clare will be pleased to outline these for you.

FAQs!

What if one of us has been married before?

You must tell us if you have a previous spouse or civil partner still living. Wymering Church does not normally refuse further marriage of divorcees, but we will need to discuss this with you at our first meeting.

What is one of us is a foreign national?

Special arrangements have to be made involving the Registrar and the Home Office in order for us to marry foreign nationals. This can be discussed at the first meeting.

What happens at the first appointment?

At the first appointment, there is generally some paperwork. You will need to bring along proof of identity (eg passport) and address, plus proof of qualifying connection if necessary, plus, if one of you has been married before, divorce or civil partnership dissolution papers.

What about preparation?

As well as the first appointment, there are three confidential meetings with the priest who will marry you. This is a valuable opportunity not only to discuss the marriage ceremony but to explore together your relationship and how being married in Church will make a difference to your marriage. The marriage vows are probably the most solemn and life-changing promises that you will ever make, and it’s important that we reflect together on your future life as husband and wife married in the sight of God.
